Mislav Grgic in Osijek Mislav Grgic received B.Sc., M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from the University of Zagreb, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing (FER), Zagreb, Croatia, in 1997, 1998 and 2000, respectively. He has been working at the Department of Communication and Space Technologies at FER since July 1997 . He was a visiting researcher at the University of Essex, United Kingdom (1999/2000). He has been promoted to the position of Full Professor since June 2010 and to the permanent position since January 2016. He was serving as a Dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing, University of Zagreb, Croatia, from October 2014 to September 2018. He participated in several research projects. He published more than 200 papers in books, journals and conference proceedings in the area of image and video compression, content-based image retrieval, face recognition and digital mammography (computer-aided detection and diagnosis of breast cancer).

He was serving as a Special Advisor to the Rector of the University of Zagreb for STEM disciplines and international projects from October 2015 to September 2022, and as a Head of the Alumni Community at FER, with more than 20,000 members, from December 2018 to April 2022.

He has been elected as a Full Member of the Academia Europaea - The Academy of Europe (based in London; founded in 1988 and in which, among others, there are over 70 Nobel Prize winners) since July 2019. He has been accepted as a full member of the Croatian Academy of Engineering (HATZ) since 2012.

Prof. Grgic is one of the most cited scientists at the University of Zagreb, Croatia, with more than 5000 citation according to Google Scholar database (h-index: 32).

Prof. Grgic is a senior member of IEEE and a senior member of SPIE. He is also a member of IEEE Signal Processing Society, IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society, IEEE Computer Society, IEEE Communications Society, IEEE Computational Intelligence Society, EURASIP, ELMAR, and AMAC-FER. He was a Chair of the IEEE Croatia Section (2013-2016). Prof. Grgic participates in more than 110 conference international programs committees, he is member of several journal editorial boards and he serves as a technical reviewer for various scientific journals.

Prof. Grgic was a member of the Working Group for the preparation of negotiations for the accession of the Republic of Croatia to the European Union, responsible for the Chapter 10 of the acquis communautaire: "Information Society and Media" (2005-2008), an appointed member of the Committee on Transportation, Communications and Maritime Affairs of the Croatian Parliament (2008-2011) and a member of the Supervisor Board at Croatia Airlines (2011-2012). He was the initiator and the main organizer in the process of adoption of the "Croatian Open Access Declaration" in October 2012.

Prof. Grgic received bronze and silver medals "Josip Loncar" from FER for outstanding B.Sc. and M.Sc. theses, and "Vera Johanides" award from the Croatian Academy of Engineering for scientific achievements in the area of multimedia communications, in 1997, 1999 and 2005, respectively. He also received the highest FER's award - gold medal "Josip Lončar" - for the great contribution to the development and successful management of the Faculty, for a scientific contribution in the field of digital image processing and multimedia communications, for the popularization of science and for the general enhancement of the reputation of the Faculty through its scientific research and professional work, in 2020. He received the highest award in the field of technical sciences of the University of Zagreb - "Fran Bosnjakovic" Award - for notable results in scientific, teaching and professional work and the promotion of scientific discipline and profession, in 2017. Also, he received the highest award of the City of Zagreb for great contribution to scientific work and activities in Zagreb in the same year. He received the Order of the Croatian Star with the Effigy of Rudjer Boskovic for extraordinary service in scientific work, popularization of science and attracting international projects, awarded by H. E. Mrs. Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic, President of Republic of Croatia, in June 2019. He received the Croatian State Science Award for 2018 for popularization of technical sciences (with three co-awardees), presented in Croatian Parliament in December 2019.
